A Brand New Day

The theme of this blog is called Brand New Day, which is quite appropriate under the circumstances, I think!

Today is July 10th, 2012.  I’ve been looking forward to this day for at least the last 6 years.  Why?  Because today is the first day of my final weight loss journey.  There have been many – Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, blah blah blah.  Tried them all, and yet I’m still fat.

But today, I’m having a vertical sleeve gastrectomy.  My wonderful surgeon is going to staple and cut my stomach, leaving me a small sleeve and removing the rest.  Forever.  Bye-bye stomach!  Good riddance!

I started my pre-op diet 10 days ago, weighing 285 pounds.  At 5′ 5.5″ tall, that gives me a BMI of 47.4.  My goal weight is 150, which will give me a BMI of 25, just on the edge between normal and overweight.  Anything lower than that is just frosting on the cupcake.  (I love cupcakes.  I will miss them.)

It’s just after 1am.  My surgery is in a little over 12 hours.  I am officially NPO, meaning nothing by mouth.  Not even water, except for a tiny sip to take my meds.  I have to be at the hospital at 11.  Not sure how I’m going to get to sleep tonight – I’m so excited and nervous.

I’ll do my final pre-surgery weigh-in, pics, and measurements in the morning.
